A little while back, Jerusalem opened up one of my new favorite places: First Station. They revamped a 120 year old train station to now be a hip, outdoor area with restaurants, shops and a small farmers market. It reminds me of the Ferry Building in San Francisco, in case you have had the good luck to go there. (add it to your list)
Since making date night a regular routine, we have landed at the First Station twice...in a row. Last night we had some friends along from Alabama and tried out the Kitchen Station. The menus are newspapers...so at first glance, it looks like you're walking in on a room full of people enjoying their morning coffee. Nope, just choosing their panini. The waitresses wear checked aprons and your utensils await in a metal bucket. It's adorable and I love it, I can be swayed by ambiance.
What's better is that after we ordered, everyone's meal arrived in it's own carrier. Kurt's fish-n-chips arrived in a steamer box and our friend's sandwich arrived in...well, it was basically a shoe box. I couldn't tell if it was cool or weird...I mean, seeing your food arrive is a peak moment...ta-da! When they put a box in front of you, it feels a little like a magic show. Nevertheless, the food was great! And as it got cooler, they handed out blankets. Blankets!
So if you come visit us, we will bring you to First Station and waltz you all around. Have a glass of wine and sit on some funky tire chairs. Try some gourmet truffles. Watch the kids drive around in little go-carts. I love it, well done Jerusalem....
